Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Walked 1.7 miles in 32 minutes.  Starting to track my eating with mypyramidtracker.gov, where I will input my eating and exercise for a couple of weeks to help me get back on track and lose weight.  Kind of hard to lose weight just walking like this, but hopefully I'll be able to ramp up my exercise consistently.  I plan on buying a digital scale today.

Michelle,

Glad to see you exercising again! Good luck on getting the exercise levels ramped up without pain and on the dieting.

Michelle- I LOVE my digital scale. It is a Tanita for home use. Tanita makes the "legal for trade" scales that are $500+, but they do make home ones that are very good. The one I have is very consistent and matches up by .2 lbs with the Tanita's at work. The one I have does body fat too, but that is based on averages and is not too scientifically accurate ;) The weight is right on ;)

I had a GREAT time at lunch :) The salad was not too bad (8.5 points), but I should have skipped the bread and butter (5 points) :)

oh- 1 point ranges between 35-110 calories, depending on fat and fiber ;D

Marion - I entered in the salad (3 cups) with chicken, peanuts, croutons (they didn't have won ton strips) low cal dressing, a strawberry dipped in choc and the piece of bread and it all came up to just 600 calories per the pyramid tracker. So I can eat dinner. Good news.

Everyone - I really want to walk tomorrow. Do you think it'd be ok if I kept it easy like today? I am ready to go (I told Marion today at lunch I could run a marathon right now from pure will, but it wouldn't be pretty).

I love the Salem Canal road, and am so glad to be back.

Michelle, I don't see a problem with walking just as long as you take it easy and stop if any pain appears, so go for it !!! . I hope to read your blog soon in another great race for you !

Michelle - if you are not pushing the walking at all and are not hurting in the morning, I think the walking would do you good.

From marion on Mon, Jul 27, 2009 at 20:53:58 from 71.213.106.139

You HAVE to walk tomorrow :) You said that the walking feels like when you are walking around the house, right??? :) How does your bum feel now? How is it going to feel at bed time??? or in the middle of the night??? Can I go with you??? Can you swim? what time are you walking? I swim at 6 am :p I wish I could swim AFTER I run or at noon or ANY OTHER TIME OF DAY! :) I am such a WIMP :)

So what time are you walking???

Can you ride a bike slow?

I just had a diet Pepsi, can you tell??? JK- I just had a side salad from Wendy's... 35 calories ;) w/a teaspoon of fat free Italian.... OH and a mini piece of cheese pizza from Little Caesars and a reg piece of pepperoni :( That pepperoni was an accident :(:::::::::::::

From MichelleL on Mon, Jul 27, 2009 at 21:16:41 from 67.41.190.219

My bum feels golden. I will probably walk at 7am. You want to walk with me, or do you just want the stalkers to be on the look out (note to stalkers - I will be on a different route tomorrow with weapon in tow :o ). I won't ride a bike quite yet. I might elliptical by the end of next week, really easy. Get my body used to the motion.

wow - I think Marion is being a bit needy right now :-)

From marion on Mon, Jul 27, 2009 at 22:17:37 from 71.213.106.139

Needy? I am just excited that I can keep up with Michelle!

Yep- I'll walk with you :) If I just stalked you, I wouldn't get to talk your ear off ;) Do you want to meet me at the pool, or do you want me to meet you some where else?

From MichelleL on Mon, Jul 27, 2009 at 22:55:47 from 67.41.190.219

Sure. Outside of the pool.
