Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Ran 9 with the Flagstaffers at the Thursday Bagel Run.  Bonnie, Dean and I drove there together and who should we see arriving after us?  Not that there aren't enough famous people there, but Ryan Hall shows up!  When the big group starts running its at a very easy pace and I realized after a few seconds that I am running right next to him.  We ran side by side for about a block.  I didn't say a peep, we were in a group and I didn't know what to say that wouldn't be foolish.

Bonnie hung with our group for quite a bit.  Toward the end Ian and I were both feeling the Wed workout, our easy pace of 7:30 wasn't quite easy enough for me, but I hung on.

We go in the Bagel shop and who's the customer right in front of us?  Ryan Hall again.  Bonnie says, "I'll have what Ryan has!"  Then she and him joke about the secrecy of whats in his bagel sandwich.  As we leave the shop, Bonnie tells him she was so pleased to run with him for two blocks and she was putting it on her blog!

So I ran with Ryan Hall, ate the same breakfast with Ryan Hall, and almost talked to him ("Hi Ryan, remember me, I was the girl who laughed when you were joking with another woman in the bagel shop in July of 2010?). Tres cool.

I love reading your experiences among the elite. Don't let anyone intimidate you. You are just as good. It's good to be pushed out of your comfort zone with new training partners, workouts, and high altitude. Plus, you ate bagels with Ryan Hall! Very Cool.

I wonder if Ryan Hall remembers riding an elevator with me...

The biggest thing I took from running Trials is just how completely normal all these "famous" runners are. Everyone was pretty down to earth, had the same pre-race routines as me, etc.

That is rally cool Michelle!!!! I have heard that he is one cool guy and really down to earth, but hey so are you and your a star;) There's some elite runners right her in this state that think thier poop doesn't stink;)

I am so in awe! Oh wow! I would be absolutely star struck! I guess running next to Ryan Hall and then asking for an autograph would be super cheesy...Actually I think I would be star struck if I met you too. :)

I've been star struck with all the bloggers I've met. Except for Walter. That was just kind of, eh.

Just kidding.

Kellie--I thought of having Bonnie write an official affidavit testifying that I saw Ryan Hall, ran with him, and she talked to him, as proof for you and Tyler. Ha! Even then it wouldn't have been as good as your pic you got in Boston.

Awesome! So jealous. Maybe you should have kissed him :)
