Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Met McMillan's team at the NAU track.   They were doing quick turn over stuff.  We did a 3 mile + warm up, stretching, and then they did some drills, and Trina so graciously showed me a couple.  I did a workout with a newer member of the team, Stephanie, and two guys.  She was doing 3 sets of 300m (200m rest), 200m (200m rest), 100m (400m rest) with each set getting faster.  I was able to hang for the first two sets but was sucking wind by the third set, so came in behind on those.  Then we cooled down.  It wasn't like a really hard workout, but not an easy day.  It's thrilling and scary to be meeting up with these elite athletes (two women have already qualified for the Oly trials with the A standard).  I'm just a tadpole--a really old tadpole.

NAU Track, where is that kiddo? Nice job on staying with them. Your legs may be old but your mind is young as a spring chicken which in my mind gives you the edge;)!!!

Sweet! Sounds like a cool experience. Off the top of my head, isn't Flagstaff at about 7000ft altitude? That could account a little bit for "sucking wind".

FUN STUFF!!! You are amazing, you belong right there with them.

Wow! So much fun, Michelle. Did you wear spikes?

NAU-Northern Arizona University, in Flagstaff.

Paul-yes, that's about right. I can really feel the difference. The legs are willing but the lungs are weak!

No spikes, I didn't even bring my A2's which would be helpful. These runners are changing their shoes for every hard run. I just have lightweight trainers for the harder runs.

I doubt that Michelle. You are awesomeness in a bottle!
