Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Just for Luz----

Provo City Half.  I was instructed to do this at marathon pace, which I figured was about 6:30-6:35 for this course and elevation.  Then I could go faster at the end if I wanted to.  Of course I wanted to!

Warm up- found Mack and Aub, and Josse, and Holly, and Luz, nice crowd of ladies that are very important to me.  2.83 @ 9:46 pace (must have had some stopping in there :D).  Good stretching, switching shoes.  At the starting line Marianne was kind enough to taunt me about whether I would be getting her course record (no, neither she nor I are in shape for that, unfortunately).  Cassie Anderson (Harmon?) was there.  I wasn't interested in jetting out, so at the gun a nice girly pack took off and I held back.  Pace felt very conversational for about 2 miles Miles 1-6 (6:23, 6:28, 6:29, 6:27, 6:30, 6:26 pass a female relay girl, closing on Marianne). Mile 7 includes the tight turn onto the rivertrail.  Luz was there!  She could see my goal, Marianne 10 sec ahead  Miles  7-10 were 6:27, 6:26 (passed her here), 6:33, 6:28.  Plan was to pick up the pace starting mile 11, let's see how that went:  6:29, 6:28, mile 13 started great, in the 6:teens, but the overpass then the long long stretch to the end (at a slight incline) obviously kept me squarely in the marathon pace zone--Mile 13 was 6:28, I had .17 at the end at 5:55 ave pace.  Total race time 1:25:10.  So 13.17 - probably imperfect tangents.  Third place, so $75 prize.  Cooled down with MacK and Aub, Aub was sick most of the way and I was sick by the end, really should have eaten more before the cool down.  4.02 cool down in 8:34 pace.  Then hung with Luz.  She watched me eat and wouldn't partake, unfortunate for her since she missed out on the Magelby's syrup.

Ice bath when I got home.  A good workout, but my time stunk.

hey I need a downhill to hit 6:30s for a few miles. You are amazing to run conversational 6:28s etc... on a flat course. Amazing ; D way to go!!
