Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

time to check in.  Wednesday, pain on the outside of where patches were, in both glutes, yesterday body just felt like it was falling apart, mostly probably because of stress and 13+ hours of work.

Today, I have pain in my right bum, sometimes in the traditional place by that joint, sometimes on my "sitting" bone, where I sit.  Didn't want to get up when sitting to read scriptures with the kids, not a good thing.  I have a dr appt tomorrow afternoon, and I want to run before, but I am not sure I will have time and the safest time to try is right before the dr in the afternoon.  Dr. Brady said if not improved by tomorrow will consider steroids, so I want to test it to see how it feels.

Dang, and I am stressed.  Worked so hard yesterday, but could not fall asleep, up until 12:45, but did no work after 10pm, so could have gotten in 2.5 more hours of work, and really should have.  Oh well.

Going skiing at Deer Valley and then high end seafood buffet in the evening.  Too bad I'll have to ski like a grandma because of an injured bum.  Life sucks then you die.  Ok that's melodramatic, but this is my blog and you're reading it so that makes you the biggest loser :)  Can you tell my husband is out of town?  I have to express myself to the blog.  My apologies.

I feel your pain. I've had bum issues for a few years now. It's been painful to sit, drive/ride in a car, you name it, it was painful. I finally found a good chiropractor who tweaked my running form and did whatever chiropractors do, and I'm doing much better. There is hope!!

Hi Michelle, just wanted you to know I am keeping on eye on you to see how you are doing. good luck at the doctor today ... steriods aren't great, but if it gets you on the road faster then it is a good thing. I bought dean a little seat for his car (it is an expensive version of the "donut" but there is an opening where the coccyx bone would be) I wonder if it would help you since you are sitting all day working. Just a thought, here is the link so you can ask Dr. Brady, if you are inclined: http://sitincomfort.com/cocusesucu.html

Have fun skiing. Usually, skiing actually helps my SI joints. I think it must stretch something that needs stretching.

I'm sure everyone here can relate to what you're going through, but I'm pretty sure what you're dealing with is what happened to me last October. I had an X-ray and 3 months of physical therapy. I talked with Josse at length about it. It has been 6 months and hard road (mentally) to try and keep my cardio fitness while reducing the wear and tear of those Sacroiliac Ligament pains. The pain of sitting was unbearable, but I learned a weirds stretch in PT that helps relieve that pain. I showed it to Marion-- if you ever see her, ask her to show you how it's done. My thoughts are with you. Tax season, injury, working hard and not having the outlet/ability to run hard. And, it's just hard to be forced to change a beloved routine. You are an amazing champion of a woman, stay strong.

Hang in there, this too will soon pass. Have you considered walking or does that cause issues as well?
