Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

AM:  I met Curtis and ran up to Bowen Road (miserable stairs and climb for 4 minutes), then ran to the far end of Bowen Road for a warm up.  Plan was 3 x 5k.  He has led me in some fast workouts and I was thinking I would not be so fast, still shaking the cobwebs of the marathon off my legs, since this is my first workout back.  On the track we did 4 x 5k before my two week injury in the low 18's.  This is marked road.  I was hoping for 3:50 pace for the first two (19:10) and 3:45 for the last (18:45).  We went out at a blistering pace on the first one and never quite settled into a slower pace, until perhaps the last k. 18:26.  A TAD faster than I wanted.  We slowed it down for the second one.  We were trying for 3:55 for the first k, but came through at 3:50, and we stayed at that or faster for the rest of it: 18:57.  On the third one I wanted to beat my first 5k rep time (18:26). Because if I couldn't, it meant the first one's pace was a mistake.  If I could, then perhaps it was ok (though more even would have admittedly be better).  Each rep had a turn around since Bowen Road is 4k long, so this one had a turn around at 2k, so we decided to go out conservatively for the first 2k then pick it up the last 3k.  That's how it went: 3:45, 3:47, 9:21 (2.5k split), then were sub 3:40 til the end: 18:23. Just over 2k cool down.

PM: 7.6k really easy while boys scootered and skateboarded. Core workout
