Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Went to bed late.

Woke up and ran with MacK.  Not sure if I was more fatigued from not getting enough sleep, ramping up miles too quickly after the marathon, or just yucky from two potty breaks during the run.  Have had tummy trouble since the marathon.  The good side of it is that I weighed 124 this morning, a next post tax season low.  I guess getting cleaned out has some benefits.  I took endurox when I got home to help recovery.

I think your punishment for getting to bed late should be to smell my Five Fingers afterwards when you come for the Uneventful Half. If you think socks smell bad, Five Fingers are a lot worse. You'll never go to bed late.

Your stomach is probably protesting because you did not listen to intuition and EAT THE FRENCH FRIES.

What kind of message are you sending to the young female readers on the blog if you work so hard and are so successful yet continue to restrict yourself from the occasional indulgence and worry about your weight? The implication of an eating disorder is only the 1/2 of it. Listening to a man (or any person) say you shouldn't eat what your body craves after running 26.2 miles is entirely another matter.

Katie - You are right Katie. Not about the fries but I should be a better example. I just want to be at my ideal running weight, but it WILL happen naturally (because I eat plenty but I will be running higher miles) so I shouldn't obsess about it.

Sasha - Sometimes there are legitimate reasons to stay up late. I do try to go to bed early but I have no intention of smelling your shoes. How about if I go to bed past 10pm I have to wash three windows the next day?

Katie - if you want to run 2:33 that mindset needs to change.

Michelle - I have found very few legitimate reasons for missing the 10 pm deadline in the last year. A couple of times somebody asked me for a priesthood blessing late at night, and one time I had to pick up my mom from the airport.
