Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Have a great trip Michelle, and good luck in the race!

BTW, I know you have a lot of things to do, but if you are going to a drugstore, pick up a pair of "support" socks - they work wonders for those long flights, honestly. My feet swell up on long flights, so I wear them for any flight longer than 5-6 hours - they keep my legs feeling less tired, no blood pooling and they protect you from DVTs too.

Thanks Bonnie. Not sure about going to the store again. My tailbone is what kills me when I fly. What's DVT's?

Michelle sorry that Kellie was a no show today. I sleep by the alarm, and when it went off I woke her up but I fell back to sleep. I should have made sure that she woke up! She woke up at 5:20 and was stressing out. She felt really bad, so I will take the blame!

Great job today!

Michelle, DVT is deep vein thrombosis - it is what Maria had last year (almost 2 years now?). They sometimes call it "economy class syndrome" -- but that is just hype (I think).

It is because you are skinny (that your tailbone hurts) -- I just giggled because I had a flash of you running through the airport carrying a little "donut" sitting balloon (that people use for hemroids) ;-) sorry! But it would help!
