Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Pool ran, nice and easy for 30 minutes.  I figure not good for more than 2.5.  HR at the end was 88, proof I didn't go too hard.  I figured I'd hit the pool and make myself take it easy and just let my legs get used to moving again.  I did have to remind myself to take it easy, but was successful.  Butt felt fine.  I did my PT exercises and some stretching after in the weight area (this is all at the Lehi Legacy center).  There were about 5-6 guys in there and they didn't know quite what to make of me (she invades our turf to stretch and do some lame-o exercises????).  Doing one exercise on the ground felt fine during the exercise, but hurt when trying to get up.  Being on a hard surface and rolling around is the only thing that hurts my SI right now.

Better get back to work.

Cool to throw the guys of kilter! If they give you any crap, you can challenge them to a race in about 6 weeks :)

Hey Michelle,

Question for you. Do you ever get any tingling or numbness in your legs or toes?

All the docs I see have me so confused because they all come up with different explanations, suggestions, etc. I am suppose to have an MRI. When I asked exactly what the order said the gal told me it was just to check out my pelvis. I said, well I want them to look at my back too. (I told the doc that I was having pain there and she even checked it out). The gal called back and said they wouldn't include the back on the order unless I came back in for another visit. I am about ready to scream.

My PT does some deep myofascia release and muscles release stuff on me. They kill at the time, but seem to help a lot. If you find anything that works really well for you, will you let me know? I realize that we are likely dealing with totally different things, but right now I will try just about anything!

Hope you feel even better tomorrow!
