Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

3 miles walking in 48:11, 16:04 ave pace.  Then weeded for 30 min, then some light stretching.

I can walk fast next week, meaning I can cock my arms up a bit and go in the 15's.  Cool!

I have all the pieces to my elliptical out in the basement on the floor, now I need to inventory and assemble the beast.  I think its the nordictrack elite 1300.  I was suprised it doesn't get plugged in but runs on gerbal power, and I am the gerbal.

Ate out a Chili's last night.  They have some good guiltless selections:  bbq chick sandwich, veggies and a skewer of six shrimp (which I didn't know, but they cost $6something, almost as much as my sandwich).  When we got home from our date,  I spent some time calculating out the PF Change menu (their nutritional info is online, but most dishes are claimed to have 3 servings, I now know that 258x3=774 and 273x2.5=682.5).  So there's quite a few dishes that Paul and I can share, and if we also get hot & sour soup and/or spring rolls, that would be enough food and within caloric guidelines.  I sure like food.

Onto other topics, can anyone name this band?

I’ve been living out of sanity
I’ve been splitting hairs and blurring lines
I am a house that is divided
In my heart and in my mind

I use one hand to pull closer
The other to push you away
If I had two hands doing the same thing
Lifted high, lifted high

I have a broken disposition
I’m a liar who thirsts for the truth
And while I ache for faith to hold me
I need to feel the scars and see the proof

And if we just keep digging we can reach the foundation
Of our souls
And if we just keep cutting all the chains from our hearts
We’ll lose control

And it feels like giving in
It feels like starting over
It feels like waking up, and you know it’s coming
It feels like a brand new day
Open your eyes

Well I don't know who does that song but I have heard it on K-love a lot recently. Congrats on your upcoming speedwalking debut and have fun putting that thing together in your basement!

DANG and SHOOT, I was hoping to get this one. I saw the Audi (AUDREY OR AUBREY) parked and I was hoping to see you. Just so you know I used to be an elite racewalker so I know all the rules and can help you really excel in that race. Who needs marathoning, right?

That was Paul running, and his car is named Audrey. I drove "Snowball" the white minivan.

Walking is the new running. It's all the rage :D

Hey, I love walking!!! I enjoy it far more than running and it is great if you can find the right people to tag along!

I am glad you are able to get moving again, and you get to walk fast next week---YES!

I think you will lose weight walking. You have had to be stationary for so long that this exercise will for sure help you to lose weight!!

BEST OF LUCK with fast walking and tracking your food and stuff.

And you are AMAZINGLY strong. I so admire you. Now, going to check out the red hair...

I walked my marathons the first two years I did them and love walking. I'm sure it is boring compared to competetive running for you - but you can improve your fitness through distance walking.

From MichelleL on Sat, Aug 01, 2009 at 21:30:06 from 71.35.248.79

Walking is sooooo much more appreciated after being sedentary. I can't quite adjust to watching runners pass me right and left, but I love getting outside, feeling my heart rate rise, and I do feel more in shape now than even on Monday. At least it is easier and more comfortable to walk faster. I'll keep walking in my rotation for a while.

Wahoooo for being able to cock your arms soon! :) I'm glad you're back in action.

From Smooth on Sun, Aug 02, 2009 at 00:11:22 from 71.32.238.231

YAY for speedwalking and PFChang!!! You're SO COOL! How's the beast looking? I can't assemble anything together to save my life. Oh, I LOVE your new RED HOT RED do!

From MichelleL on Sun, Aug 02, 2009 at 11:44:42 from 71.35.248.79

Thanks Smooth! I have gotten all the parts out of the box and inventoried the parts, that's as far as I have gotten:/ I might be using the elliptical this week, so I should finish it by Wednesday, but I have my mom, aunt and Grandma coming Wednesday, and they are pool exercisers, so I might be pool running or swimming with them. We'll see.

From Smooth on Sun, Aug 02, 2009 at 11:52:47 from 71.32.238.231

Either way, pool or elliptical, more gerbal power to you!!! I can just picture you, your mom and grandma kicking some major trash in the pool!!! :-)

YOUR HAIR LOOKS GREAT!!!!! I love it.

I understand what you are saying about seeing runners. I get flat out ticked when I see people out running, and I only took a week off. I am sure it is super hard for you, but just know in your mind that you are a speed demon and you will be back to beat all of those runners! And all of us will be there to cheer you on while you do it.

Have fun pool running and getting that machine put together!

So who sings it? No one guessed it. I have to know now. I love your keen interest in lyrics.
