Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

When I woke up I got on my left side (I think I've been saying my right side this whole time, but its my left I am on to relieve the right side) and I lifted my right leg, which traditionally caused pain, but no pain.

Laid on my back for 1 hour last night and felt no pain, some pressure on my bone but when I paid attention, that pressure is also on the left, just the weight of my body!  I gingerly rolled to the left and there was no pain! I don't dare roll to the right, that is where I am very likely to feel pain.  I guess I'll test that side in a few days if I feel like there's more healing progress.

Feeling happy with my progress!  Here's to another crutchy day.

Update - work was so hard!  I had to go up and down the stairs many times, never though my desk job had so much moving around.

Went to the elem school's fair in the evening, so more crutching around.  No real pain but can feel my SI just a tad. Big knot in my upper right back.

I'm so happy to hear the pain tests look like you are healing. That must make you feel a little more positive.

Hey you!!! I have read your week... WOW. You have learned SO much. Have you had a bone density scan? (I didn't read all of the comments) They thought I might have osteoporosis and did one last year. I told the doc he was a moron and that I didn't have it.. AND... I didn't. My bones are fabulously dense ;) I think it is called a Dexa Scan, if I remember correctly. Does Steve O have an nutritionist that you can meet with to just make sure all of your nutritional bases are covered? Being SO active really seems to require a lot more attention to the small details with nutrition.

Michelle,

That is SUCH GREAT NEWS!!! Funny what we all take for granted, isn't it? Or should I say, sickening what we all take for granted?

It's going to get better each day now ... I just know it!! :)

(Thanks for keeping me in line. I have always thought the world of you ... and what you say bears a lot of weight. You are great!!!)

Improvement! that is wonderful news.

Now, just a little more patience. You can do it.

Thanks everyone! We should have a dairy party at my house to celebrate. . .except I can't clean too well so scratch that.

Marion - I am going to the dr. Tuesday to ask about the calcium supplements, density/osteo testing. dexa scan is on my list of potential tests.

Teena - I'll rein you in if you keep an eye on me and knock me on the head when I need it. The last thing I want is another set back.

Clay - Don't I wish I didn't trip. Crutches mishaps are basically the only time I feel pain, and its not even sharp then, so I don't begrudge it.

Thanks for stopping by yesterday!!! Are you doing anything fun today?

Hey- we made "hummus" with black beans and salsa. The kids LOVED it. I found the recipe when I googled hummus. It turns out that we american folk call any mushed up beans "hummus."

Yes I am. I entertained the girls so Sandra could have an extra hour of sleep. Then made all three meals today with cleaning the bathroom and kitchen. Just have to love mother's day... I hope you were just as spoiled.
