Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Such a hard time sleeping because of too much sleep yesterday and nerves starting for Ogden Marathon. Since I visualized the race several times over last night I decided that's the last time I get to do that before sleep this week or I will start to go crazy.

I'm going to run in the afternoon today to get in more miles with less strain on the body. This will be my version of a taper for now.

It was raining during the whole run and I was thoroughly soaked! And there was about 2 inches of snow at my house when I got home. Yet it's supposed to hit 80F on race day Saturday. That's just not fair!

7 miles even in 59:03, 8:26 ave pace. Ran with JH a pretty little road loop. If I would have put some shampoo in my hair before leaving I wouldn't have needed a shower when I got home.

Afternoon: boring 3 miles on treadmill, total time 23:31

Evening: abs, stretches, walked to park with kids and ran 1 mile with them.  They are so strong and motivated! It is so cool!

You are going to do great on sat. I wish now I would have signed up so I could run with you guys. Regarding yesterday, we got big candy bars too. I resisted it til about 9 pm and then gave half to garrett and then I had the rest:)

Half is better than whole, and if you ask me half is better than none at all :) From today on though I am on the eat-only-healthy-stuff-and-emphasize-carbs-before -the-marathon diet.

I keep visualizing Ogden too. (Sometimes it turns out great, sometimes bad... too much anxiety!)

My initial thoughts on pacing are miles 1-8 at about 7:00, miles 9-17 at about 7:20, and miles 18-26 at 7:00 or whatever I have left at that stage (taking advantage of the downhill as much as possible). What do you think?

That sounds just about right for the first half, though I may be willing to go as fast as 6:50 depending on how I am feeling. The number one rule for those first eight is for it to feel very easy. Easy fast, right? Let me know what you'll be wearing. I am sure there will be a big group of us bloggers at the top just hanging out after we get off the buses so hopefully we'll be able to meet and line up together. Strength in numbers!

You should have every reason to relax. You are not in shape to run a fast time, and it is a slow course to begin with. And it might get windy or hot, or both. There is no bonus for the course record as far as I know, and it is out of reach right now anyway being 2:54 I believe. Who cares what time you get? Just run it, take it easy, run 5 minutes slower than all out unless there is money on the line. Even then, if you find yourself in a money position already, do not try to upgrade it until you get to 18.

Too much excitement is bad for Ogden even when you are in shape. I've been beat twice in that race by the people who did not necessarily outmatch me in fitness that day, but did a better job at keeping their ambitions in a box.

You are right Sasha. But 6:50-7:00 for first eight, then 7:20 after that is really conservative, don't you think? Do you think I should go slower than that?

Sorry to hear about the rain. I actually don't mind the rain and it's basically my favorite stuff to run in. As for Ogden this weekend don't fret. You're going to have a blast and you're going to 'chick' like 99.9% of the field! Look forward to reading the race report!

Hi Michelle keep those race day jitters (adrenaline) for race day!!

Guess what -- the forcast for my race on Sunday is current low 77 high 100 ... if the forcast continues I will have to wait for another day -- in which case I will see you in Ogdgen because I will be running with my friend Anna for part of the race (but don't tell anyone).
