Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Met Josse, Melody and EmilyB.  My workout was 20 x 2 min on/ 1 min off.  Goal was 3:45/k pace (6:00 pace).  I knew that having strong ladies with me would be key to me even getting close to finishing this workout.  They didn't want to do 20, but neither did I so I don't blame them.  We warmed up 4k toward the mouth of the canyon.  There was a strong headwind as we approached the canyon so we decided to not go up and down the canyon on the fartlek. Good call.  Here were the paces for the first 12: 3:42, 3:44, 3:39, 3:43, 3:46, 3:40, 3:45, 3:43, 3:48, 3:43, 3:44, 3:44.  Then Melody and Emily peeled off.  I wasn't sure midway through #13 if I would be doing many more.  Then I remembered I had a gu in my shorts.  So between 13 and 14 I took a gu.  Here were my splits going solo 3:42, 3:40, 3:46, 3:44, 3:38, 3:39, 3:41, 3:42.

This is the first workout that I did where I felt adjusted to the altitude.  I am so happy to have finished the workout, and am grateful to the ladies for getting me far enough in the workout so I could see the end.

PM: 7k run in the heat.  Marion biked next to me.  4:43/k pace.  Ran in her daughters size 9 shoes and I felt like a water bug.

Great workout Michelle! Glad you could handle the altitude for a tough workout!

I wish I could meet up with you guys for a run, but living in Salt Lake and being on Lee duty 24/7... its tricky!

You ran with my BFF?

From MichelleL on Wed, Aug 08, 2012 at 07:38:36 from 97.117.82.22

Hey Kassi, I didn't realize you live in SLC now. I was hoping you could come out to one of the training sessions but I thought you were in Provo/Orem. Someone needs to reason with Lee about your need for sleep :D

Burt--is youre comment meant to be illuminating? am I supposed to guess which one is your BFF?

Just kidding. You're my BFF.

Ya, that's what you tell all the bloggers. Get back to your arcane words on wordfeud. I will be back for a beating on Aug 14th.
