Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

AM:  9.04 miles total, 4 running

Ham still feeling nice, still hurty when I stretch, but much less tight today, still some niggling in left groin (Orrock didn't get to this injury).

Met MacK, walked 1.35, then stretched (it was soo cold this morning!) and then because it was cold she didn't want to run the farmlands (good call), so for our run she led me up the hill we just walked down.  I huffed and puffed beside her, then flat miles for 2-4, our miles were 8:19, 8:09, 8:01 for the last three, the first one was uphill and in the middle of a split, so we don't care about it's pace :) We then parted ways, and I walked another 3.69 (12:34 ave pace).  My hands were freezing and I knew I needed them to get my key off my laces, so I started to fartlek walk and that warmed me up really well. .

When I got home I jumped on the elliptical just to warm up, then kept going until I hit 100 cals (6:23).

PM: Walked 1 mile warm up, stretching and ab workout (watching biggest loser, that's one way to motivate myself to not eat something naughty at night, had an orange instead).

Good job on the training, Michelle. Keep it up!

I'm learning all these new terminologies: hurty, niggling, fartlek walk. :) It was freezing this morning...brrr. Time to get out the gloves and long sleeves again! GOOD RUN and NICE warm up after you got home (you know it's cold when you have to warm up instead of cool down after.)

Good job Michelle. Sounds like you're making some good progress and doing it smartly. (That's a brisk pace for walking, nice.)

So glad you're not niggleing or hurty because of your fartlek walk....Look at you! Coining new phrases left and right. Seriously though, way to take those 2-4 down to the 8's!!! I sure hope that your niggle doesn't sporadicate additional paintification in the post-meridian.

Everyone hold on - I don't coin words, I just steal them.

Hurty - from Ruth on the blog.

Niggle - from Ian on the blog (now a lost sheep).

Remember I am an accountant--not creative.

I saw Kara Goucher use 'niggle' in a running article lately.

From MichelleL on Tue, Sep 22, 2009 at 17:11:15 from 71.213.97.46

Yeah, Cal, I saw it on a Nike web post by Kara last year, after I heard Ian use it, and then I thought it must be a legitimate term and started using it.

Good progress!

Hey, thanks Sasha, if I'm progressing I'm happy.
