Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

AM: 7.04k at 4:52 ave pace, stretching

PM: Went to aberdeen for a track workout.  It was 5 x 1600m with 90 sec rest, 10k pace.  So the kind of workout that sneaks up on you.  I rested a bit more than 90 sec because the guys I was running with finished a few seconds behind, until the last 2.  6.91k for a warm up, stretching. My goal was to start at 5:45 and not slow down.  I would be tickled pink if I could run a 10k at 5:45 pace.

  1600m Rest
 1 5:43 1:32
2 5:42  1:38 Way too fast in first lap, 82, slowly allowed myself to take some of that time back
 3 5:43 1:36
4 5:37 1:34 Felt fatigued from the start on this one, thought I just ran as fast as I wanted to in #5, but I still needed to do #5, Ultramarathon guy keeps up with me on this one
5 5:31  Ultramarathon guy takes off right from the start on this one and gets a 5:19, another guy keeps up with me and pushes me in the last lap
 Ave 5:39.2

So I was able to go faster than I thought I could.  My left SI has been a bit niggly when I am not running, but when I run it is fine, including in this workout.  I have a massage scheduled for tomorrow so will have him work on that.
