Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 8, 6, and 4.

Ran 5 easy, with 4 striders.  I noticed recently that my stretching causes me to breath hard and its not very relaxing at all.  I still stop and stretch after one mile and stretch again when I get home.

I went to Dr. Brady yesterday.  He worked on the same as last week, Right calf, foot and ham.  He did electro-acu on my calf this time and it hurt like the devil, even when he took the needles out.  I guess I am just a wuss.  I couldn't feel any calf tightness while running this morning, though I am sure there's some.  I sure hope I don't get any knots during the race.

You will be just fine!

Good Luck on Saturday. After you finish go back to your motel, take a shower, a little nap, eat some lunch and then come back and see me finish :)

From MichelleL on Oct 01, 2008 at 10:17:07

Thanks Josse, I sure hope.

Doug, you'll be in before I finish my third blue bunny ice cream.

Good luck on Saturday. You've been tearing up the track all year nothing will change now. Best wishes.

Desi L.

P.S. I will be happy to watch your kids anytime I can't make up a lame excuse. lol.

I seriously doubt that you can be anything close to a wuss! You rule Michelle, I'll be cheering for you and Josse on Saturday! You two seem to run similar pace... are you going to run together or compete against each other, or do you know which one of you is faster? Some healthy competition never hurt anyone, right? ;)

From josse on Oct 01, 2008 at 12:18:15

Lucia- Michelle is much faster than me, but I hope to have no more than 15 mins in between us:)

From luzylew on Oct 01, 2008 at 17:38:44

a) I'm strangely comforted that you think you are a wuss for the electro-acu proceedure (see Josse and her scraping tools for my reasons for this)

b) Weight post? I'm wondering if you're in denial that (like me) you can gain 3 pounds in during taper week. I got on the scale this morning and freaked....I read somewhere today that it's not abnormal to gain as much as 5 pounds taper weeks. Maybe it's just me.

From MichelleL on Oct 01, 2008 at 17:56:59

Sorry, weight was 123. I do expect to gain, but I monitor, to try to minimize my damage. Don't want to gain 10. I am a big wuss. Just ask Josse. I start just about every vo2max interval with the rather benign expletive, "crap!". Then I start. I feel the same about the sports therapy.

I am excited to see what you are going to do on Saturday. You are amazing, you train like crazy, and I don't know if there is anyone out there who is more prepared for this race than you are. I am trying to work out the details so that I can go down to the race, and if I do make it I will be cheering you on like crazy at the finish. If not, I will still be cheering for you from Salt Lake and will look forward to reading your race report.I have a feeling you are going to smoke the competition and smash your PR. GO MICHELLE!

You wont get any knots you funny girl! Your body is going to function perfectly for you, it knows how to perform. We all know that! See you in a little over 24 hours:)

From Benn on Oct 01, 2008 at 23:28:16

You will run fast. You will kick butt. You are a fighter. And a tough chica. Fight the good fight and you're in my prayers. Enjoy your race, Michelle. You deserve it!
