Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

I had great sleep Saturday night and a great Sunday nap and paid for it with horrible sleep last night.  I ended up on the couch watching the Olympics after midnight.

I ran 11.01 at 8:08 ave pace in Salem/Payson, with four miles on the canal trail.  I felt slow at the beginning but warmed up just fine.  Not much soreness from Saturday's workout.  Some tenderness in one knee, hamstring still tight but not sore.

Great run! How was the canal trail? Which part did you run on?

My world fell apart Saturday night :( I was on my way to your house about 6:15 - so excited :D(our plans ruined by teenagers), and then my 2 year old ATE my husbands hand held thingy & took it entirely apart... and I needed to stay to protect my offspring ;) My hubby hardly ever gets mad, but boy he was ticked, mostly at me for not noticing that Will was into his "stuff."

Wow- wasn't the marathon exciting- and they showed nearly the whole thing! What was that winner girl snorting? Isn't coke illegal?

Too bad you didn't make it Marion..Sasha and I did. Michelle you are an excellent housekeeper. I am in awe. Thanks for hosting us.

I think I saw you stretching this morning? Red shorts? I couldn't really see a face? What kind of condition was the canal trail in? It has been either rocky or like powder? It might be getting better. I love to run on that road, no cars, no people and there is normally a lot of deer.

Sarah - you are too kind! It was fun to have you there. At least it kept me from eating unholy food while watching the marathon. That would have been bad irony.

Marion and Tyler - The canal road is incredibly rocky in places (the worst is where the canal goes up on the hill that separates the salem valley area from Payson) but quite good in others. Its too bad there's not a consistently nice stretch. It seemed to be powdery for 1/2 mile, then rocky for 1/2 mile. I was wearing red shorts. I didn't see you - but thanks for saying hi (taste the sarcasm). Are you going to come out and do speed with me tomorrow as penance for being a bad running buddy?

From TylerS on Mon, Aug 18, 2008 at 18:02:39

I had no idea it was you so sorry. Tuesday mornings suck for me, I have to leave my house by 6:00 am. I will most likely do no speed this week. I do need to go and have you give me 5 while I do 2 miles repeats. Last time it was 4:30 am and I was alone.. and only completed 2 of the 3...
