Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

I did no specific workout, but I was in charge of Woodland Hills Days races, and I did about a mile of running all day long.

Marion was kind enough to wake up at the butt crack of dawn to help me set up and saved the race from insufficient-volunteer-meltdown.  I appreciate her coming!  She is so generous and a great friend.

Since it was Woodland Hills Days, there were activities all day long, and our house is right by the park where the festivities are, so Marion's hubby DD came up with their three boys and they spent the day with us (community breakfast, pet parade, children's carnival).  I was about ready to melt into the half dead grass by the end of the very hot afternoon.  I won't tell how Marion and I each bought a gourmet brownie, and shared them (ok, she gave part of her's to David).

I am quite sure I walked at least 5 miles today, between the walking back and forth from my house, the race directing, and evening walking.

In the evening we had a community dinner, then the kids hung out at the park and played with their friends for 2 hours.  JJ brought his bike to the park and he learned how to ride without his training wheels for the first time, and he was so good at it.  So I ran along side him on the road (he's not so good at stopping and there were occasional cars), so even though my running was more like 30 sec segments, I think I still got my 8 minutes of running in.  I plan on running 1 mile straight through on Monday.

Sounds like a busy but fun day. I'm glad you are enjoying the start of working out. Good thing to have Marion as a friend.
