Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 8, 6, and 4.

Met MacK and Josse in SF. It was windy and warm (49F at start, but I am sure with windchill it was more like 42). I wore shorts! The temps dropped as we ran and a cold front moved in. We ran around the golf course. All three of us have sore throats so we didn't have energy for speed. I would feel like I had plenty of energy for a while, then I would feel like I couldn't keep up for a while. Overall I am glad I got out.

Two short naps, one am and one pm.  Gradually felt less streppy through the day.

Great job getting out. Sorry about the sore throat, hope you kick it soon!

I'm a personal trainer at Desert Palms gym here in St. George. I start work at 5am and am done by noon with a break in between to get my kids off to school. It is the coolest job ever!

Hey thanks for the welcome and encouragement! Its much needed and appreciated. Just a question... is it preferred to run at night or morn? And with either, should I eat before or after? How does that affect my running?

From what I understand afternoon is better than morning or evening. However, I think whichever schedule is best for you actually getting out there and getting it done is the best schedule for you. Good, bad or ugly, a run is better than no run. How much you should eat before a run and how long before the run is a matter of personal preference and trial and error. You will find out the answer to your question of how the eating will affect your run through experimentation :) Eat too little and you may run out of energy. Eat too much and you may get unpleasant side effects. When I run in the morning, even a way long run, I do not eat, so long I start my run within 45 minutes of waking up. I know alot of people who eat a whole or half banana or piece of bread or oatmeal before all morning runs, or just before long runs. I would try both for a couple of runs and see what works best. If you run in the evening, I would have a light meal before your run if you can (maybe two hours before) and a light meal after. I personally have never liked to run in the evenings, though in high school I did it all the time. I don't like wondering if I am actually going to get in the run I need to that day. I like to wake up and get the run done. That way I get one of the hardest things in my day out of the way and I feel successful all day long.

Glad you were feeling a little better by the time you got out for a run. Hope you feel better soon. Spring will be here soon enough!
